When Dead of Winter, starring Emma Thompson, filmed in Finland in spring 2024, Laura Sutinen served as Above-the-Line Liaison, supporting the film's international cast throughout their time in Finland.
Working closely with the talent and production, Laura looked after the people, relationships and practical details that shape the experience both on and off set. After filming wrapped, Emma chose to extend her stay in Finland. During those final days, she wondered how she could thank Finland for the experience, and Laura suggested putting her thoughts into a letter. The result was a widely shared tribute to Finland, describing the warmth, hospitality and professionalism she had experienced and encouraging international colleagues to bring their productions to the country.
For the Finnish premiere of Dead of Winter in 2025, Laura invited Emma back to Finland to promote the film and celebrate its Finnish release. Working alongside the local distributor, Laura was again responsible for arrangements around Emma and her close circle, including the press day and their wider visit.
A production may end when filming wraps, but the relationships built around it can last much longer. When trust is built with discretion and situational awareness, those relationships can open doors to new and sometimes unexpected opportunities long after the original work is done.
